NBC is offering a buy-one-get-one-free coupon to Tex Mex eatery Chipotle to people simply for watching a 90-second promo video of its latest TV show, “America’s Next Great Restaurant.”

The Facebook page for the new show, which features Chipotle CEO Steve Ells as one of the four investors, urges people to “like” the Facebook page, then watch the video. Afterwards, users are able to print out a coupon for a free meal including a burrito, tacos, or a bowl with the purchase of another meal via an app on the Facebook page.
The promotion lasts through March 6 (the day the show premieres); the coupon is good for 7 days after viewing the video.
Chipotle is also running an in-store texting promotion offering a free catered burrito party to one lucky winner who texts “ANGR” (America’s Next Great Restaurant) from any restaurant location.
Free food seems like a pretty smart way to get people to do things, and watching a 90-second video about a TV show seems a lot less painful than, say, going to an hour-long staff meeting for the free cookies.
“NBC will gain tens of thousands of new fans in days, some who love Chipotle, some who love anything free and others who just want to be part of the action,” said Alyson Seligman, president of Palm Beach Gardens-based Seligman Brand Strategies, which does social media strategy for companies among other public relations work. “NBC can now regularly update them about all of the network’s other programming. It’s a win-win.”
Seligman said it was smart for NBC and Chipotle to pair up for the social media promotion, providing marketing and business to both companies. She said that cross promotions like this one are increasingly gaining steam in social media.
“America’s Next Great Restaurant” pits budding entrepreneurs against each other for the chance to win the money to help open their new restaurant chain venture.
